Estudiantes de La Plata activated its emergency protocol after a student allegedly pointed a gun at another student. The institution assured that it acted in accordance with the current regulations and under supervision. The incident occurred on Friday at the Escuela de Educación Secundaria N° 53 in Los Hornos, La Plata. The institution began the protocol and filed a complaint after learning of the alleged presence of a gun inside the establishment, after a student allegedly pointed a gun at another student. According to a source close to the case, the episode occurred during the Friday afternoon shift, at the secondary school located on 185 Street between 77 and 78, when "apparently a minor brought a gun and pointed it at another". The situation was left under investigation by the competent authorities and, to date, no details have been provided on the characteristics of the gun or the circumstances in which the episode occurred. In a statement to the families, the management team stated: "Yesterday, the Management Team learned of the alleged presence of a gun in the school on Friday last in the afternoon shift". The school added: "We want to bring tranquility to the entire community; to communicate that we acted in accordance with the current regulations and under supervision, carrying out all the actions foreseen for the situation". Additionally, the school administration indicated that it held meetings with the families of the involved students and filed a complaint with the Ministry of Security of the province of Buenos Aires. Meanwhile, the institution anticipated that it will continue with specific pedagogical proposals with the students to address what happened. "We will continue working with the students in specific pedagogical proposals that will allow reflection on these facts and the responsibility that must be assumed before certain acts", they expressed. The schools of the province of Buenos Aires have had a specific protocol since April 2026 for threats of shooting or presence of weapons in their installations. The regulation establishes that, in the event of any indication of armed violence or threats, the educational staff must immediately notify the management team and activate a communication chain that includes inspectors and authorities. In parallel, the school administration must file the corresponding complaint with the prosecutor's office or the nearby judicial authority to initiate the relevant investigation. The protocol indicates that the protection of the life and physical and emotional integrity of the educational community is a priority. When the threat involves the display of a gun inside the school, the recommendation is to act calmly, establish dialogue with the student, and notify the 911 to request the intervention of the security forces. The official document details that it must always be considered that the gun is loaded and that no other member of the educational community should handle it. It should be ensured that the gun remains on a safe surface and, if possible, ask the student to remove their finger from the trigger.
